Video Of The Month: “Better” By Aüva

A little band emerged, as they are wont to do, from the cauldron of musical discontent known as Berklee College Of Music in Boston. They called themselves Sonia, but then regrouped and became Aüva, a now six-piece indie rock outfit who write real groovy and hook-filled pop songs. We’ve chosen their very first video, for the track “Better,” as our Video of the Month. It’s sweet and spacey, and harkens back to a golden age of Boston rock in the late ’80s, before the major labels came calling, when bands like fellow ex-Berklee kids Blake Babies were marrying classic pop sensibilities to clever, weaving, jangly guitar lines and longingly romantic lyrics. The interplay between the male and female lead vocals sends this one over the top, and the beautifully low-budget video wisely focuses on the band members and brings you into the song, rather than distracting from it. The video will be streaming on our homepage at OurStage.com and you can watch it below.

Yonas’ #SummerMonDaze Continues

We already got into the great single and video for “You F#cked Up,” the first in the #SummerMonDaze series of single releases by the one and only Yonas. Since then, the New York artist has released two more, “Wait A Minute,” and most recently, “King Of The Summer.” They’re both killer tracks, unique in their own ways, but “King Of The Summer” is simply a masterful pop gem, a classic longing love song with a perfect hook. We’ll update this post as more tracks come.

Kyle Bent: There’s An App For That

Boston-based hip-hop artist Kyle Bent just released a new app, designed for iPhone and iPad, that will serve as a one-stop shop for all things Bent. It includes everything from a calendar of events to fan community and social media links, plus of course music, video, photos, and e-commerce. The app is the latest move for the 18-year-old rapper as he ramps up his marketing game on the heels of new and innovative content, including 2016’s full-length (his seventh!) Complex Simplicity, released on Made In The Shade Records, and his conceptual, spoken-word short film of the same name. Get the app here.

Video Of The Month: “Overdose” By The Good Fortune

We love the NPR Tiny Desk Concert Series, which has produced a whole bunch of great live, stripped-down performances, captured in the NPR studio. They’ve introduced dozens of new and emerging artists to the masses (well, the NPR-listening masses anyway), ourselves included. A nice by-product of the Tiny Desk Concerts came about when NPR put out a call last year for submissions from independent artists for a chance to be part of the series. We’re not sure how many submissions came in, but we’ve come across several great ones from OurStage artists in recent months, including this one, which just made the Top 20 in our Video channel last month. It’s by Roseville, California’s The Good Fortune, and it’s a stunningly great performance, with equally excellent production. It’s different enough from the studio version of the song to make for enjoyable side-by-side listening. It’s our video of the month and can be seen featured on the homepage, as well as…right here:

Pre-order Late Cambrian’s New Album

Look, I think we’ve been very clear that New York’s Late Cambrian has been doing damn good things, so let’s get to the point. It’s been about three years since the release of their last full length, Golden Time, and since then, the band has morphed considerably from a catchy guitar rock band to a lean electro pop duo, who have released a series of carefully crafted singles and videos in the interim. Now, finally, Late Cambrian is readying the release of their new LP, Sweet Cambrian High, Vol. I & II. It’s available for pre-order now as part of a PledgeMusic campaign, and will be released on CD, cassette, and limited edition colored vinyl. So, if you like unique, infectious, and clever music – and we know you do – get to it now.
