Described by Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls as having “the soul of old country [but a] die hard rocker with some punk thrown in the mix,” Georgia-based Hannah Thomas isn’t afraid to play around with genres. Having released her latest album over a year ago, Thomas has been busy traveling the country, playing shows, and writing new material” but in order to help that last one come to fruition, she’ll need your help. Thomas has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund her latest album, and is seeking $10,500. Though the album title is still in the works, she hopes to record the album in late spring/early summer for a fall release. You can pledge here and watch her video below. You can also catch Thomas on tour this March and April across the U.S. (more…)
After nearly 17 years, Longineu Parsons has decided to part ways with Yellowcard. The band announced their drummer’s departure on Thursday, saying, “It has been announced that long-time drummer Longineu ‘LP’ Parsons III has left YELLOWCARD. Longineu has decided to pursue other musical interests. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.” A replacement has not been announced. Parsons’ exit leaves Sean Mackin as the sole original member. It is unclear what this means for the band’s upcoming tour dates, including their slot on this summer’s Warped Tour.

Right after his recent North American tour announcement, Beck took to the stage of Jimmy Fallon‘s Tonight Show to perform “Waking Light” and “Say Goodbye,” which appeared as an online exclusive. Both tracks come off Beck’s recent album, Morning Phase, which we’ve raved about in one way or another over the past few months. I wasn’t sure those haunting melodies would necessarily translate well live, but this performance speaks for itself. Catch Beck on tour this spring, and watch both videos below. (more…)

SXSW is in full swing, despite last night’s tragedy, and as we move forward in one of the music industry’s biggest festivals, we’re beginning to see the first of the SXSW coverage popping up online. From performances to reviews, it’s almost enough to make those of us not there feel like we’re in the crowd. For former OurStage Artists of the Week, Vic and Gab, last night went off without a hitch as they performed their single “Let You Down.” Check out the clip right here and catch the duo on tour throughout the Midwest this March and April.

I don’t know why I’m surprised. In this day and age, it seems musicians are doing just about everything, and as much as Keith Richards is probably one of the last people I’d peg to write a children’s book, it seems I’d be wrong. Billboard reports that Richards’ story, Gus & Me: The Story Of My Granddad and My First Guitar, details Richards’ own relationship with his grandfather, Gus Dupree. Illustrations will come from his daughter, Theodora Richards (ok, so that’s kind of sweet), and the book will be released this fall. Barnaby Harris and Bill Shapiro will assist in the writing, so I guess we don’t have to worry about any of that drug abuse and debauchery that appeared in his memoir, Life, popping up. Keep an eye out for Richards’ book, released on Little Brown Books For Young Readers this fall.
